Trump Demands Intel CEO’s Resignation: “Highly Conflicted and Must Resign Immediately”

Today, President Donald Trump publicly called for the resignation of Intel’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, via his Truth Social platform. The post, which drew immediate attention from both the political and tech communities, read:

“The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!”

While Trump did not elaborate on the nature of the alleged conflict, his comments arrive during a period of heightened scrutiny surrounding Intel’s leadership and strategic direction. Tan, who became CEO earlier this year, has faced questions from some lawmakers regarding his past connections to technology firms with operations in China. Critics have expressed concern about potential conflicts of interest, particularly in the context of U.S. efforts to strengthen domestic semiconductor production.

Intel has not yet issued a response to Trump’s statement. However, the post has already impacted the market—Intel’s stock fell by more than 3% following the remarks. The reaction highlights investor sensitivity to political sentiment, especially as the company plays a central role in the Biden administration’s CHIPS Act initiative to boost U.S.-based chip manufacturing.

Lip-Bu Tan is a veteran in the semiconductor industry, having served previously as executive chairman of Cadence Design Systems. Supporters argue that his industry experience is crucial as Intel seeks to reclaim global leadership in chip fabrication. The company is currently investing heavily in new facilities in Arizona and Ohio, which are expected to come online over the next several years.

This development adds to ongoing discussions about corporate governance, national security, and the role of political figures in influencing publicly traded companies. As Intel navigates both domestic expectations and international competition, the leadership conversation is likely to remain in focus.
